Root Resistance

About:

Our game is set in a dystopian world where an authority controls and regulates food, outlawing the act of growing your own under the guise of “health and safety.” 

We follow a character who receives a meal that clearly isn’t sustaining them. Soon after, they’re contacted by an underground resistance group known as the Root Resistance, who provide them with a packet of seeds, marking the start of their illegal food garden. 

Players manage this hidden garden, responding to the needs of their plants as they arise while also fending off patrolling security drones. At the same time, they must ensure the plants don’t overgrow and become too large, or they risk being spotted over the fence. 

With this game, we wanted to highlight the absurdity of a world where something as simple as growing your own food is forbidden. While the setting is clearly dystopian, it raises the question of whether our own world might not be as far from that reality as we think.
